Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – Movie Review
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – R
Release Date: Fri 10 Nov 2017
Tired of the lack of progress in her daughter’s murder case, Mildred (Frances McDormand) puts up three angry billboards calling out Ebbing’s police chief Willoughby (Woody Harrelson.)
Writer/Director Martin McDonagh expertly mixes comedy, crime and drama into this story about people looking for answers in a believable small Missouri town. Mildred is angry and foul-mouthed, but we also see her flip a defenseless beetle back up. Sam Rockwell’s Dixon, a police officer with a bad attitude could easily have been a 2-dimensional villain. But Rockwell’s impeccable performance gives us a more complicated man dealing with his own anger.
I cannot imagine an audience that would not like this film, save people who are really averse to language. It’s also a movie that is better the more you discover for yourself, so I’ll keep this recommendation brief.
