The Pyramid is a clunker of modern horror that should stay buried beneath the sand. Set during the chaos of Egypt in August 2013, a group finds a strange, three-sided pyramid buried beneath the sand. The military attempts to evacuate them as Cairo becomes a war zone. After sneaking a robot into the structure to get a look, it suddenly disappears. Rather than explain that they lost a $3 million robot, they go in to find it.
The characters are each an archetype so stale and with no development we actively hate most of them. Of course they die. Of course there are jump scares galore. But it’s so painfully by-the-numbers that it makes the similarly set and plotted As Above So Below look like a masterpiece. I didn’t care for that one much either but it was still a better mystery and horror story.
Oh, and yes there is a monster. A ridiculous, 1980’s B-movie animatronic looking beast that we spend long moments staring at in full light.
Needless to say, I wouldn’t bother with this one.
